EF Pro Cycling News Update, Veronica Ewers signs with EF Education-Cannondale beginning in 2024

EF Education-Cannondale, our new UCI Women’s Continental team debuting in 2024, proudly announces Veronica Ewers will join our roster.

The American climber is only in her second season of being a professional cyclist and has already shown her aptitude in the peloton. Last year, she was ninth on the general classification at the Tour de France Femmes after coming fourth on the anticipated gravel stage and seventh on the queen stage. She won the final stage in the Festival Elsy Jacobs where she finished second overall. She took first place at the Navarra Elite Classics the day after placing second at Emakumeen Nafarroako. Her 2022 season wrapped up with a pair of second place results at Giro dell’Emilia and Tre Valli Varesine before she finished fifth overall at the three-stage Tour de Romandie. This year, Ewers was in the top ten on three different stages at the Giro d’Italia Donne and finished the stage race in fourth place on the general classification.

Ewers, already familiar with EF both as a company and as a partner in cycling, knew right away that she wanted to sign with the new EF Education-Cannondale team.

“I’m really excited to be part of an EF team and to be part of growing something successful together,” she says. “I really appreciate EF as a company wanting to make sure that men’s and women’s cycling are viewed equally and treated equally. I think that’s a really big step in our sport.”

She looks forward to the close relationship that EF Education-Cannondale will share with the men's WorldTour team, EF Education-EasyPost.

“Joining EF Education-Cannondale goes back to my roots starting out as a cyclist. I started cycling by training and racing with a bunch of guys and I think that really helped me improve as a cyclist so I am really happy to be part of a coed team.”

With both teams based in Girona, Catalunya, Spain, where she lives and trains, Ewers says there are a number of advantages.

“Having the service course here will be massive. There are a lot of resources in Girona already because it’s such a center for cyclists but with the team service course here and the resources around, it will be so convenient to have those resources nearby.”

Ewers is a natural leader whose strength on the bike lies in her climbing abilities.

“I’m very much still growing and developing as a rider but I imagine next year I’ll be a race leader at times, especially when it comes to the grand tours. I’m hoping to also have more opportunities to work on being a support rider for my teammates on other days.”

Team general manager Esra Tromp recognizes Ewers’ power but also understands that the 28-year-old still wants to grow as a rider.

“Veronica is already an incredibly talented rider,” Tromp says. “She has achieved so much on the bike in such a short amount of time. Our role is to help her continue to develop by providing her with opportunities and resources. Her eagerness to learn, combined with her tenacious character and the mindset of a top athlete, are traits we appreciate and look forward to nurturing.”
